Hi, I’m Kristina. I’m a bilingual journalist who’s passionate about politics and storytelling.

I’m a native German speaker who’s lived in four countries and eight cities, currently based in Washington, D.C. I graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in journalism and political science.

Though my work, I aim to explain the political process and help readers engage with government, covering everything from census funding to overseas voting and Senate procedure.

The Hill

2022 – present

I co-write Morning Report, The Hill’s daily morning newsletter. We provide a comprehensive guide to national politics and news affecting readers in the Beltway and beyond every morning, with context and depth to help you start your day. I lead our newsletter’s foreign affairs coverage, and have solo-anchored Morning Report through a House Speakership crisis and a historic presidential candidate shift.

The Modesto Bee
Report for America

2020 – 2022

I was the Bee’s economic development and housing reporter and a member of the 2020-21 class of Report for America. My beat focused on economic recovery and development, as well as housing development, in Modesto, Stanislaus County and the North San Joaquin Valley. I wrote about everything from PPP loan distribution (CNPA 2020 finalist), to the barriers to housing development in Modesto, the disproportionate economic effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on local women and plans for a local baseball stadium.

The Washington Monthly

2020

As an editorial intern, I did longer-form policy reporting, worked as a fact-checker and copy-editor, and did upkeep and social media for the Monthly’s blog, Political Animal. Additionally, I reported on overseas voting, COVID-19 related abortion legislation, and student debt cancellation proposals.
